Read God’s Word

There is no substitute for the regular reading of God’s Word, the Bible, which is centered on the person and redeeming work of Jesus Christ.

As we read the Holy Scriptures, God reveals our sin, our need for a Savior, and His gift of salvation through Jesus’ death and resurrection.  Through the Bible, we come to know the truth about God, ourselves, and the world.

If you’ve never read the Bible before, you may want to start with the Gospel of John, which reveals the life of Jesus.

“So faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.” Romans 10:17

Pray

Prayer is simply conversation with God. Regular prayer is part of an ongoing relationship with our heavenly Father. You can pray anytime, but consider a regular prayer time - in the morning before breakfast, or before you go to bed at night. If you are unsure how to pray, consider reading a section of one of the Psalms and praying it back to God. You may also try following the acronym ACTS while you pray (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication).

“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

Attend Worship Service

Worship gives the believer an opportunity to focus on and respond to God. At Hope, we place an emphasis on worshiping through hearing God’s Word, singing, and giving. Worship service attendance also allows believers to serve each other and fellowship with each other.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24 - 25

Attend Bible Study/Sunday School

As believers, we desire to know and trust Jesus more and more. Regular Bible study, both individually and corporately, is like a regular meal for our soul, feeding us the Bread of Life.

“Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
